Multilingual Creative Writing Workshop
Multilingual Creative Writing as Open Spaces for Learning, Dialogue and Imagination
Workshop 6–7 July 2026
Fachsprachenzentrum, Universität Bielefeld & Online
Multilingual creative writing expands classroom practices into participatory, public and artistic spaces. Students engage with language not only as a system to be mastered but as a creative medium. This medium is shaped by personal stories, translational practices and intercultural encounters. Writing across languages fosters and encourages linguistic confidence, language development and aesthetic awareness, inclusive communication and critical reflection.
This workshop brings together contributors of a forthcoming edited volume, Writing Across Languages, Writing Across Worlds (2026). The publication highlights various innovative classroom approaches and collaborative performance formats, and it examines editorial and publishing processes behind student and collaborative work. The volume also offers concrete exercises and tasks for use in the classroom as well as models for integrating production-based projects into academic curricula.
Drawing on teaching, publishing and creative experiences, the contributors who are connected with the Language Centre (FSZ) at Bielefeld University and its international partners, explore and discuss how multilingual creative writing can be applied in higher education for learning, intercultural awareness and literary practice. Combining scholarly presentations with hands-on creative practice, the workshop offers space for dialogue, feedback and joint reflection.
Educators, researchers, writers and practitioners interested in multilingualism, creative writing pedagogy, translation and literary production in academic and public contexts are cordially invited.
Organisers: FSZ Universität Bielefeld, NEOLAiA, LangueFlow, MMA-MMKI (Budapest)
